Uzbekistan Tashkent Solid Waste Management Project

CREDIT AMOUNT: IDA-US$24 million equivalent
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project will return the existing municipal solid waste management system to a satisfactory level of service, and improve the technical, financial, and institutional basis for its future operation and development. The main benefits of the project will be: (1) restoration of an environmentally acceptable, sustainable, and cost-effective level of waste collection service to the Municipality of Tashkent; and (2) positioning the Municipality for further development of its solid waste management system to incorporate modern solid waste reduction, resource recovery, and waste disposal technologies. The project will have an immediate impact on the overall population of Tashkent through improved service.
