The following project was approved today by the World Bank's Board:
LOAN AMOUNT: IBRD - US$36 million equivalent
TERMS: Grace period = 5 years; Maturity = 20 years
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project will focus on initiating post-restructuring technical and financial support to qualifying newly constituted private farms and agribusiness units in five selected tumans (districts). It aims to: (i) increase profitability and productivity in the agricultural sector; (ii) support newly created private sector initiatives; and (iii) ensure sustainability of the agricultural sector through rehabilitation of irrigation and drainage systems and improved farm management. Post-restructuring support is planned to the following five tumans: Akhangaran (Tashkent viloyat (province), Ellikalin (Karakalpakstan), Marhamat (Andijan viloyat), Nishan (Kashkadarya viloyat) and Sherabad (Surkhandarya viloyat).
