Uzbekistan: Health Project

The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board:

LOAN AMOUNT: IBRD-US$30 million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project will improve the quality and efficiency of health care services, especially in rural areas. The project will test the government's reforms in three pilot regions: Ferghana, Navoi, and Syr Darya, selected to provide a window on conditions prevailing elsewhere in Uzbekistan. The project consists of four components: (1) strengthening primary health care services; (2) training of general and family practitioners and nurses; (3) strengthening of finance and management; and (4) project management.
