Collection criteria

Public Information Center (PIC) at the World Bank Country Office in Uzbekistan provides access to the publications on development topics issued by the World Bank Group, governmental institutions and other development agencies.

I. GENERAL COLLECTION CRITERIA

PIC Uzbekistan is a reference library and an information center rather than a research library. It includes current development studies on the country and the region; development projects; economic and sectoral research and studies, and statistical information about the country.

The library integrates material including books, CD-ROMS, into one subject collection composed of titles from the World Bank and other official development agencies.

The Public Information Center catalogue documents in both English and Russian.

The Public Information Center circulates items both outside the center and at the reading area provided on site. The materials can be removed only in case the library obtains more than one copy. The center can provide printed pages from the Internet. So far this service has been provided free of charge, though there is and intention to do this for a small charge per page.

The library does not keep any restricted or confidential material. We also do not keep teaching material, language training material, travel books or brochures, fiction or bibliographies, documents on countries and/or region other than the appropriate ones. At the same time the library has major local newspapers and some magazines.


II.SPECIFIC COLLECTION CRITERIA

  • The whole scope of collection covers at least the last 2 to 5 years.
  • Scope of collection: The collection includes hardcover and paperback publications, CD-ROMs, full text Internet documents and informal documents and reports.
  • Publications, general and sectoral studies and reports, and statistical/social/economic/ financial information about Uzbekistan.
    Publicly available information on WB projects in Uzbekistan assembled in Project Books (including but not restricted to appraisals, project descriptions, completion and audit reports, environmental assessments, resettlement plans, etc.)
    Flagship/major publications of a general nature either statistical or sectoral coming from the World Bank Group and from official development agencies, working to support economic and social development in Uzbekistan.
    Official development agencies studies dealing with the country as part of the region.
    WB Groups organizational charts, telephone directories.
    Uzbekistan government statistical reports, sectoral studies and any other work relating to development projects.
    Books on the above subjects produced by other donors and donated by some development agencies (UNDP and other UN agencies, ADB, EBRD).
