| WASHINGTON, September 9, 2004 - The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board:
CREDIT AMOUNT: US$39.48 million
TERMS: Grace period = 10 years; Maturity = 40 years
GRANT AMOUNT: US$ 0.52 million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project aims to improve the quality and overall cost-effectiveness of health care services in Uzbekistan. This will be achieved through: completion of the primary care program in agreed to regions, and institutionalization of general practitioners nationally; extending financing and management reforms related to efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery; improving public health services, including surveillance, training in public health and control of communicable disease; and building capacity in the Ministry of Health to better monitor and evaluate the reforms, and better manage the restructuring process.
