The World Bank Awards the Best Regional Student

On May 29, 2008, Loup Brefort, the World Bank Country Manager for Uzbekistan participated in the Awards Ceremony of the 6th annual Contest among the Students of Economic Faculties. At the ceremony held at the “Zarafshan” Concert Hall he awarded a special prize in the nomination ”Best Regional Student”. The nomination was instituted by the Bank four years ago and since then has annually been awarded to the students from remote regions of Uzbekistan. This year Ergashev Hurshid, the 4-th year student of the Namangan Engineering and Pedagogical Institute was announced a winner in this nomination and awarded a color TV-set.

The Annual Contest among the students of economic faculties is organized each year by the Economic Review magazine. The aim of the contest is to popularize economics among students and to support young talents. 135 students from 32 higher education institutions of Uzbekistan took part in the event. The contestants were challenged by a set of tasks and tests on a wide range of economic disciplines, namely economic theory, macro- and microeconomics, international economic relations, finance and banking, as well as questions on the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan.
