Informal Round Table was held in the Uzbekistan World Bank office on November 1. It was arranged by Poverty Reduction and Economic Management (PREM) team which visited Uzbekistan between October 28 and November 5, 2008. The objective of the Round Table was to facilitate preliminary discussions on possible ways of cooperation on proposed technical assistance in capacity building for macroeconomic modeling and forecasting. Representatives of various interested ministries, research think-tanks, and key donors in Uzbekistan took part in the discussion. The proposed TA project is expected to have a specific focus on undertaking assessment of key economic sensitivities to external shocks. The Round Table has become a good opportunity to review the model types and platforms that already exist and are being used in Uzbekistan. Also, the participants discussed other advanced models and techniques that can be developed and applied to assist the government in better solving various technical tasks and improving the quality of macroeconomic and sectoral analyses and forecasting.
